Day 1 Observations - 08/06/2012

  1. Eight glasses of water doesn't sound like much but I don't think I've ever drank that much in a day prior to yesterday.   Going to pick up a nice large container to drink out of as my glass at work is only 12oz.
  2. I ingested a lot of sodium.  Around 3004mg yesterday.  Almost half of that was from the Wendy's Spicy Chicken sandwich and almost a third was from the Hamburger Helper I ate for dinner.
  3. It was shocking to see that the Wendy's Spicy Chicken sandwich was 25% of my caloric intake.
  4. Sparkpeople.com is a really useful site for tracking your food intake.  I highly recommend it.
Wednesday the Pro\Grade: Lean should be delivered.  Thursday I'll try it as a replacement for my lunch.

And before you chastise me, I know Hamburger Helper is not the most healthy thing to eat.  :)

LOL I was thinking the hamburger helper was not the best but I was not going to say anything. I used to eat it like crazy. It's easy to make and tastes good. It takes time to learn and to find better ways to enjoy healthy meals that are easy to make and taste good.

Logging you food is a HUGE eye opener. That is why I really push it when people tell me they want to lose weight and get healthy. I was shocked multiple times while logging because I thought I was making a healthy choice while eating out and come to find out it was high in calories! Now before I eat out I look up the nutritional information so I can make a healthier choice. It is ok to have a higher calorie meal here and there but it is better to be informed so you don't mess up your weight loss thinking you are eating healthy.

Stay away from deep fried any thing (spicy chicken :P).

Grilled is always better (Wendy's has a grilled chicken).

Condiments add up so be careful!

Measure everything!!! This is just as important as logging. Try to remember you won't have to do this forever, just till you learn.

Eat lots of veggies! Corn is an exception to this rule. I've read it is more of a carb. Almost ever diet plan I have ever read or heard of says veggies are free. You don't need to log them and eat as many as you want. I believe this is because they are full of fiber and tons of nutrition that will make you feel fuller long and you that way you won't eat as much of the bad stuff.

You talked about both sparkpeople and caloriecount. Where did you end up making and account? How many calories a day did they give you? What is your goal weight loss a week? Have you started working out? I know about how old you are but your readers might be inspire/interested in that info as well if you are willing to share it.

Hamburger Helper is just too convenient. I suspect I'll still be eating it once or a week or once every two weeks.

Going to probably find out what spaghetti w\meat sauce is going to be numbers wise tonight.

I agree logging is a huge eye opener!

I created an account on both sparkpeople and caloriecount. I like sparkpeople better so that's what I'm going with. User name is MSECREST.

Calories per day: 1,980 - 2,330

I want to lose an average of 1.75-2.00 pounds per week. My goal for a year is to lost 81 pounds.

I've been walking 1 mile during lunch and 1 mile with the dog at night. I'll be starting some more cardio in a week or two. After a month I'll probably add some light weight work.

I'll update my site to include age. I plan on updating my weight and waist size each week.
